“ | I was good to you kids. And what'd I get? They took my pension. That was because of your friend, little Tommy O'Neal. Because of that prick, I spent ten years in Sing Sing. You ever been to Sing Sing? I worked all my life! I volunteered to help you kids. And for what?! What did I get? I tried. I was there, which is more than I can say for your smackhead mothers and degenerate fathers. Shit! I loved you kids, and some of you were happy to love me back. But not you. Remember when you come after me with that stick? Why the hell are you here? Whatever happened in your life ain't my fault. You can't escape your nature, kid! | „ |
~ Walsh to Billy Russo, denying all responsibility for ruining either of their lives. |
Arthur Walsh is a minor antagonist in Marvel's The Punisher, appearing in the Season 2 episode "Scar Tissue". He was the pedophilic caretaker of the Ray of Hope group home where Billy Russo (now known as Jigsaw) lived during his childhood.
He was portrayed by Thomas G. Waites.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He sexually abused several young boys at the group home where he used to work, some of whom were apparently "happy to love him back", implying Stockholm Syndrome. This makes him even stand out from Kilgrave as no one he raped was underage.
- When the child Billy Russo refused to consent to his "love" and instead fought back with a stickball bat, Arthur furiously broke his arm and ripped his rotator cuff in three places, thus forcing him to give up on sports entirely.
- He shows no remorse for his actions nor does he take any accountability for them, only complaining about being rightfully punished for doing said actions. He even gaslights Jigsaw as an adult, projecting his folly onto him and mocking him for being physically scarred and having problematic parents.
- His death is played for satisfaction.
- While Arthur's crimes aren't shown onscreen, the aftermath is, especially considering his actions had a huge impact on who Billy Russo would later become as an adult. Plus he's just a normal human with little-to-no resources, and pedophilia is an extremely unique if not personally exclusive crime by MCU standards.
Trivia[]
- He's one of two Pure Evil villains in Marvel's The Punisher, alongside William Rawlins. He's also the only child molester in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, which makes him stand out even in a franchise with several other rapists, and isn't homicidal in any way, highlighting how cruel he is as he manages to stand out without as much as trying to kill a person.
- He's the first original MCU character to be Pure Evil.
