“ | For the first time in our history, humans pose a threat to our kind. Their modern technology has given birth to weapons that could destroy us. Maintaining our secret has never been more imperative. In such perilous times, only the known is safe. Only the known is tolerable. And we know nothing of what this child will become. Can we live with such uncertainty? Spare ourselves a fight today... only to die tomorrow. | „ |
~ Aro's speech in Breaking Dawn. |
Aro is the main antagonist of the Twilight film series, based on the books by Stephenie Meyer.
He is the tyrannical leader of the Volturi Clan, a coven of vampires so powerful that it effectively rules the vampire world. Cruel and merciless, Aro will do anything to ensure that his power is unquestioned and strengthened, even if it means killing countless of his own kind.
He was portrayed by Michael Sheen, who also voiced House in Doctor Who.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He took over the vampire world and ruled it with an iron fist.
- Anyone who broke the rules of the Volturi Clan was executed.
- He orchestrated a genocide against the Romanian Coven, burning down its castle and leaving only two survivors.
- He regularly feasted on dozens of innocent humans.
- He turned people, young and old, into vampires to serve as his henchmen and/or weapons.
- Two of these were the twins, Jane, who could torture anyone with a single look, and Alec, who could create a mist that deprived those who touched it of all their senses. Aro used these twins as his heavies.
- He destroyed any Immortal Children (vampires that were turned as children) that threatened to expose the vampire world.
- He murdered one Immortal Child Vasilii's mother Sasha right in front of him because she attempted to save him. He then had Jane throw Vasilii into a fire to burn alive.
- In wiping out the Immortal Children and their loved ones, Aro destroyed countless covens, cultures and families.
- He settled in Volterra, Italy, where he would kill vampires that came to him wishing for death on a regular basis. He refused to kill them if he found their powers useful and wanted them to join him.
- He forced Edward Cullen to turn his human girlfriend Bella Swan into a vampire, as Aro was interested in seeing her apparent immunity to mind control grow.
- He secretly wanted Edward (who had keen mindreading abilities) and Alice Cullen (who could see the future) to join the Volturi Clan, and plotted the destruction of the Cullen family so he could force them to join him.
- He had his human secretary, Bianca, murdered simply for using poor grammar/spelling.
- He had a pattern of trumping up arbitrary charges against vampire covens so he could justify slaughtering them, leaving alive only the few members he wanted to join his clan for their powers and serve as witnesses that "justice had been served."
- When Irina told Aro that Edward and Bella had had an "Immortal Child", Renesmee, he saw this as a perfect opportunity to massacre them all except for Alice, Bella, and Edward.
- He sought to kill everyone who sided with the Cullens, and even executed the nomadic vampire Toshiro, despite the latter refusing to join the rebelling army.
- Though the Cullens definitively proved that Renesmee was not an Immortal Child, Aro still tried to provoke them into battle so he could annihilate them.
- The Volturi Clan even killed Irina for her "false allegations" to spur her sisters into attacking.
- In the vision of the possible future as foretold by Alice, Aro led his army against the Cullens, leading to a brutal battle with countless deaths on both sides.
- Aro himself tore off the head of Carlisle, the head of the Cullen family.
- The only reason that this war didn't come to pass was that the vision showed Aro himself dying. Aro and his clan retreated, but it was implied this was hardly the last the vampire world would hear of their tyranny.
Trivia[]
