“ | They'll tell you revenge is unhealthy, my sweet. That it erodes the person seeking it far more than the quarry. But that is fictitious. Revenge is good. As good a fire to move forward as any. Remember those who stood on your fingers as you climbed the craggy cliffs. Remember their faces. Remember their families...remember what they love...and kill it before their eyes. | „ |
~ Zola's lesson on revenge to his daughter Jet. |
Dr. Arnim Zola is a major antagonist from Marvel Comics, most commonly appearing as one of the secondary antagonists in the Captain America franchise. He is a Nazi scientist and member of HYDRA under the Red Skull. He was also responsible for the creation of the Hate-Monger.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- When he was still human, he butchered countless people for his experiments.
- In one instance, he put his cleaning lady's decapitated head on a dog's body without killing the cleaning lady, leaving her in constant pain.
- He also forcefully artificially inseminated his own wife Mary when she refused to give him any children and then tried to run away upon discovering his secret lab, causing her to die right after giving birth to his son Leopold and daughter Jet.
- In his debut, he tries to put Adolf Hitler's brain inside Captain America's body.
- In the same story, most if not all of Zola's entire castle is made of living, feeling, organic tissue. S.H.I.E.L.D. also has an entire file of info for all the monsters Zola created, which include Doughboy and Primus (also made out of restructured human tissue), a giant man-bird hybrid put in a natural environment with a fearsome potential for mass destruction, and the Man-Fish guarding Rio de Muerte in case of prison escapees who all lost their skin and perished going that way.
- He cloned Hitler and created the Hate-Monger out of sheer fanaticism, thus making him responsible for all the atrocities he committed afterwards.
- He became the self-proclaimed god of the alien realm Dimension Z, wiping out entire villages of men and children while using the women for bio-clay to create grotesque bloodthirsty monsters who serve his every whim. Even worse, some of these mutates are also partially made of Captain America's DNA, so in a way it's kinda like the original Cap is fighting and killing his own brethren for survival.
- He tries to kill all life on Earth, sending his army of mutates with hypodermic infection rifles that'll overwrite their entire consciousness with a copy of his own. incinerating anyone else who opposes them. Sharon Carter nearly dies sacrificing herself to stop this from happening, blowing up Zola's battle station while they're both still on it.
- He tries to destroy all of New York City with a bomb.
- He doesn't truly care for his own two children, having only created them to serve as extensions of himself, and it's explicitly stated in-universe that whatever "love" he shows towards them is simply a manipulation tactic. If he loves anyone, it's himself.
- With his daughter Jet, she was forced to fight groups of mutates since childhood, and Arnim even tries to kill her for opposing his evil plan to kill all life on Earth.
- With his son Leopold (who was renamed Ian Rogers), he brainwashes him with orders to kill his adopted father Captain America, and then reacts with complete and utter apathy when he fails and apparently dies in the ensuing fight.
- Overall despite claiming his actions are for the sake of science, it doesn't make him an anti-villain/extremist at all because he shows a definite amount of sadistic pleasure bringing death and misery unto innocents just to feed his own gargantuan ego.
Trivia[]
- He and his MCU counterpart are, so far, the only versions of Arnim Zola to be Pure Evil.
