Arlo Sabian is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Dr. May Updale) of the series, serving as the main antagonist of The First Purge.
A member of the New Founding Fathers of America, Sabian is tasked with orchestrating the escalated atrocities of the Staten Island Purge experiment in order to present its supposed effectiveness to the public. Because of this, he is responsible for ensuring the initiation of the Purge as an annual nationwide event alongside the countless deaths they cause.
He was portrayed by Patch Darragh.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- After being fed up of having to take care of the homeless and lower-class people, he and Dr. May Updale came up with a holiday that would later be known as "the Purge," allowing people to commit any crime from 7PM to 7AM with no consequences. The two decide to utilize Staten Island in New York as a testing ground for this initiative, with Sabian aiming for high amounts of murder to occur for the approval for nationwide purges in the future.
- When very few Purgers actually commit any serious crimes such as murder, Sabian secretly hires racist terrorist groups and mercenaries to kill innocent people on Staten Island to rig the statistics of the experiment. When Updale discovers his actions, he arranges for Updale's murder in Staten Island; afterwards, he subsequently erases the footage of the terrorists and mercenaries crossing the bridges to Staten Island to hide his involvement in them suddenly appearing.
- The racist terrorists and mercenaries that Sabian hired would then go on to murder dozens if not hundreds of people. For example, an entire church filled with those seeking refuge from the Purge is burned down and massacred by white supremacists. By the end of the night, almost an entire apartment block is massacred, with it only not being completely killed off thanks to the efforts of Dmitri Cimber.
- He has the majority of Dmitri's gang killed off by government drones, with the only member surviving aside from Dmitri himself being 7&7. Even then, it is highly unlikely 7&7 survived the event given his injuries.
- After the experiment concluded, the rigged statistics were seen as satisfactory enough that the president allowed the NFFA to make the Purge a nationwide occurance every year on March 21st. This makes Sabian responsible for 23 years worth of horrific crimes such as mass murder, torture, mutilation, death games, rape, and terrorism along with millions of casualties, all for his genocidal and elitist goal of murdering all homeless and lower-class citizens.
- His actions would ultimately lead to the destabilization of America as after the NFFA brought the Purge back after 8 years of it being abolished, due to the Purgers not being able to purge for so long, they became too violent to control and kept killing people even after the holiday had ended, leading to many people needing to escape to Mexico or Canada due to America becoming unsafe to live in.
- Other governments would eventually become fed up of the NFFA and their actions, so they decided to strip them of their power completely and re-install Charlie Roan's policy that she created to put an end to the Purge, doing it permanently this time and the governments would work with the Anti-NFFA Resistance force in order to kill off all the Purgers and make America stable again.
- Overall, it is due to Sabian that the entire series even happened to begin with as without his rigging, the Purge never would have become an annual event and would have only had a very small body count instead of the massive body count the Purge would rack up over the series.
