“ | Grey paid me pretty well. But I saw a better way to close the deal. Put the boy and the virus on the open market -- sell it to the highest bidder. Let market forces settle this war. Retire a rich man... HAND THEM OVER. | „ |
~ Benoit's plans to sell the virus for his selfish reasons, revealing his true nature. |
Anders Benoit is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Vyktor Kratek) of the 2013 video game Killzone: Mercenary.
He is the commander of the mercenary organisation Phantom Talon Corp., who were hired by Alex Grey, and the former employer of Arran Danner. He uses the Second Extrasolar War as means to profit from it, showing no regards to personal lives being lost within the wars, all to make a quick buck for his own gain. He later serves as Danner's archenemy.
He is voiced by Corey Johnson.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- While he seems to be a capable leader to the PTC, in reality Benoit shows no genuine loyalty to his own men but seeing him as his pawns, as in the case when he only shows a surprised reaction over Carrell getting killed, but only because Carrell was the organisation's experienced mercenary. This is further emphasised when Benoit reneges Danner after the destruction of the Helghast refinery that nearly killed the latter in the first place.
- Used Alex Grey's paranoia over Danner handing Savic to the Helghast, which he soon uses it to his advantage in an attempt to betray him for his own purposes. This, in return, makes him one of the most personal villains towards Danner.
- Uses the Second Extrasolar War to profit on other's suffering who were victims of the war, all for means to get paid. This goes to show that he is mostly motivated by greed for his own sole purpose of "being a rich man".
- Betrays his partner Arran Danner during the destruction of Tharsis Refinery by leaving him dead and would be killed off inside of the crumbling facility, had Vyktor Kratek not intervened in the first place.
- Pretended to side with Kratek, so that he would soon betray him to personally confront Danner.
- Plans to sell Justus Harkin and the Eschaton Virus to the Black Market, despite Benoit being aware of the virus' lethality and danger to humanity, all for means to make him "retire a rich man". Not only this plan is considerably selfish and reckless, as it would put billions of lives at risk, but it showcases Benoit's greedy and egotistical nature.
- Personally plans to kill Danner at the end for refusing on his own deal, leading to a violent firefight between two archenemies.
