“ | Thank you commander, for so thoroughly and brutally dispatching my enemies, but now I'm afraid you have outlived your usefulness. You know just enough to be a threat to me, and with that, the future of the Soviet Republic. I will not say до свидания commander, as I can assure you, we will never meet again. | „ |
~ Anatoly Cherdenko to The Commander |
Premier Anatoly Cherdenko is the main antagonist of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3. In the Allied and Imperial Campaigns he is the main antagonist, while in the Soviet Campaign he is the main protagonist. He is the Premier of an alternate Soviet Union, created by mass-manipulation of the time-stream, but he is aware of such alterations and he was indeed responsible for many such alterations as a way to gain and keep power.
He was portrayed by Tim Curry, who also played the Pennywise form of It in the 1990s miniseries of the same name, Taurus Bulba in Darkwing Duck, Hexxus in FernGully: The Last Rainforest, Skullmaster in Mighty Max, Kilokahn in Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, Slagar the Cruel in Redwall, Von Talon in Valiant, Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Nihilus in The Story Keepers.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
General[]
- He is ultimately responsible for all possible events which transpired in Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 through his deliberate manipulation of the timeline.
- Although the time machine was likely a secret project originally intended to save the Soviet Union, he was more willing to opportunistically exploit the technology to try and create a new reality more advantageous for his lust for power, blatantly ignoring the risks of changing space time continuum.
- Immediately assassinated Albert Einstein at the 1927 Solvay International Physics Conference, in spite of Dr. Zelinsky's warning.
- This also directly resulted in the creation of the tyrannical Empire of the Rising Sun.
- Is a self indulgent opportunist irrespective of all determinant outcomes in the game, and ultimately betrays all of his top commanders and closest advisors in the Soviet campaign.
- Although he displays a flamboyant communist persona throughout the events of the game, this is clearly only a facade belying his zero sum lust for power and world domination, and considers everyone and everything a pawn in this endeavor.
Soviet Campaign[]
“ | It is time my comrade, to deliver the final blow to the Allied cause. You are to meet the supreme allied commander at Easter Island. Together you will sign a treaty calling for an end to all armed conflict. I have convinced them that we as a nation are weary of war, and that our people only want peace. We will sign this treaty, we will come together as brothers, and then we will crush them! Yes general, it is a trap, and you my friend, are the bait. | „ |
~ Anatoly Cherdenko to The Commander |
- Although he seems to take a cordial liking to the protagonist commander of the Soviet Campaign, he was only taking advantage of the commander's strategic talents to secure a favorable strategic outlook in the third world war, and also personally used the commander to purge his top advisor and right hand, General Krukov, whom he did not want to share his ultimate glory with.
- In spite of said cordial demeanor with the Soviet commander, he knowingly sent him on dangerous and at odds missions, likely in an attempt to have him prove his worth to be his pawn.
- Feigned an assassination attempt on himself in order to frame General Krukov.
- Purged Dr. Gregor Zelinsky when he was no longer needed, and to try and prevent him from revealing the existence of the time machine conspiracy.
- Arranged a faux peace deal with the Allies in order to deliver the decisive strike against their military capabilities.
- Betrayed and attempted to purge the commander after strategic dominance over the Allies and Empire of the Rising Sun was achieved.
Allied/Rising Sun Campaigns[]
- Although he agreed to a ceasefire with the Allies amidst the sudden entrance of the Empire of the Rising Sun into the war, this was only in the interest of balancing the threat posed by the Empire of the Rising Sun, and later attempted to secretly undermine the Allies after the Empire was pushed back.
- During their brief and convenient alliance, discreetly undermined the Allies during their joint assault on Yokohama Harbor by purposefully stalling the Soviet navy, increasing Allied casualties.
Trivia[]
- Anatoly, Joseph Stalin, and Yuri represent the Soviet dark triad of Command and Conquer pure evils, and are thus far the only pure evil individuals from across the dormant franchise.
