Alina Gray is the main antagonist of the 2020 anime series Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, and adaptation of the game of the same name. Originally one of the 3 leaders of the Wings of Magius alongside of Touka Satomi and Nemu Hiiragi, she eventually loses interest their plans to save all magical girls from their fates of becoming Witches, Alina betrays the Wings of Magius as she sets out to control Embryo Eve for her own nefarious ends. She is noticeably even nastier than her original game counterpart, lacking even a hint of humanity that she had to remain a sadist obsessed with art till the end.
She is voiced in Japanese by Ayana Taketatsu and in the English dub by Cherami Leigh.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- Is one of the 3 co-leaders of the Wings of Magius, creating their Doppel systems as well as the barrier on their base in Kamihama City, in which they would turn the magical girls loyal to them to become Uwasas, beings no differ than Witches who are infamously beings in a constant state of agony and despair and capable of mass destruction, which they plan to use against the planet and cause countless casualties all across the planet, having been giddy witnessing first hand the destruction of Kamihama City as a result of their collective plan as merely the starter.
- When an Uwasa named Ai gianed sentience and abandons the Magius, Alina tracks her down and sadistically attempts to kill her and her friends Iroha Tamaki and Sana Futaba, leading to her painfully corrupting Ai with her doppel and forcing Sana to mercy kill her.
- Unlike the rest of the Magius who seeks to improve the lifestyle of all their fellow magical girls after having been emotionally exploited by the Incubators into selling out their souls and end up becoming Witches, Alina is outright disinterested in their entire agenda, and in Season 2, has them abandoned them because she finds their overall goals to be boring and not fitting her artistic sadism rather than being disillusioned with their immoral means.
- It is also why Alina is the sole exception in the entire franchise of magical girls being tragic victims over the Incubators' emotional exploitation, as Alina has no interest in having her misery relieved as she is evil simply because she finds killing and inflicting suffering much more enjoyable to her.
- Ultimately seeks to fuse with Embryo Eve and absorb Walpurgisnacht's power to transform all of humanity into witches, which has been portrayed as a Fate Worse than Death throughout the franchise. And in order to do, she happily renounces her humanity to become a devastating witch that kills scores of Magical Girls, one of them including Madoka Kaname.
- All in all, Alina is the sole character in the entire Puella Magi franchise to be devoid of any sort of sympathetic or redeeming traits to be evil incarnate, lacking even the redeeming qualities as well as her eventual redemption that she had in the original video game incarnation.
Trivia[]
- So far, she is the only character in the entire Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise to be Pure Evil.
- There was a potential possibility where Alina could have a redeeming trait, as she might have a soft spot for Karin Misono. At one scene, she was referring to someone that needs payback of exploitations from Kyubey while making a piece of art. However, this was left too ambiguous and vague as Alina never made any direct reference to Karin at all beyond this, and Alina only being portrayed as nothing more than lunatic that is concerned only about herself and nobody else, lending the equally probable idea that "someone wanting payback" would've been just on herself, securing her Pure Evil status.
