Alien Pedan is one of the main antagonists in the 2019 Netflix anime series, ULTRAMAN, based on the original 2011 manga series. He serves as the main antagonist in the second season. He is an enigmatic invader and the leader of the Star of Darkness whose motive is to conquer the Earth and the one responsible for the disappearances of many abducted humans.
He is arguably considered to be the archenemy of all six of the Ultramen due to his heinous actions of nearly destroying the Earth and being one of their strongest opponents alive.
He was voiced by Junichi Suwabe in Japanese dub and Christropher Swindle in English dub.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- His overall goal is to conquer the Earth out of spite, in doing so, he abducted no more than hundreds of innocent people as a bargaining chip upon using his quantum transmission devices, starting with some of the population from New York.
- Despite making a deal with Maya and the last of the Wadorans to have immigration within Earth, he was shown to be verbally abusive to them and won't hesitate to punish them if they fail, which he can also be physically abusive when he strangled Maya for not obeying his orders. It is also implied that he might be racist given his slurs and remarks on the remaining Wadoran, calling them "low-graded" and a "useless lot".
- He had orchestrated an attack in Japan by sending in Mochigon to endanger and attack many innocent people during its rampage.
- Abducted an entire crowd of people, alongside Shinjiro and Rena, into being his hostages while he had Shinjiro imprisoned to prevent him from interfering.
- Bargained around the whole earth through his message to allow him to conquer them or he'll kill all the abducted humans out of spite.
- Enforced Maya to detonate one of their transmission devices to lure in one of the three Ultramen for the kill, even knowing well that one of the two remaining Wadorans, Raiden and Tsuchigumo, are still down there. When Maya refused, he personally pressed the button himself, while the Ultramen survived, Raiden and Tsuchigumo did not, leaving Maya devastated and he took this advantage as a warning to her.
- It was implied that he had Mochigon modified into a much more brutal version of itself after luring in the Ultramen.
- He had a doppelganger of himself kidnap Shin Hayata as another bargaining chip while also killing several SSSP members upon entering their headquarters.
- Sent one of his henchmen, Llubhic, to go after Maya after knowing she'd betrayed him. This led to Hokuto being damaged in the fight and caused Maya to get nearly killed during the fight.
- Although it is revealed she survived by possibly faking her death in the after credits in the season finale, had it succeeded, Pedan would've been responsible for wiping her out given she was the last of her kind, thus marking the extinction of the Wadorans.
- While making his announcement regarding the bargain, when the people refused, he would destroy the Earth instead of conquering it.
- Activated the Golden Fortress to prepare for the Earth's destruction by making it a "vacant lot", which he activated a destructive energy beam that destroyed half of the city in one go, presumably killing thousands of people who weren't abducted earlier.
- Began unleashing multiple laser shots from his fortress that caused further destruction across the city while attempting to destroy the SSSP Headquarters out of spite.
- Taunted Kotaro that there was no hope in stopping him or his android, which led to Kotaro sacrificing himself to destroy the Golden Fortress, although it was temporary.
- During the final battle, he sadistically fought the five remaining Ultramen out of spite while having his doppelgangers electrocute Moroboshi, Jack, and Hokuto in a torturous and sadistic way spitefully.
- He dared Shinjiro and Shin to fire their Specium Rays at him or he'd continue torturing their comrades to death. While he seems to want to experience death, it was for a plan he plotted behind their backs as stated by Bemular after he died, so it doesn't count as honorable, especially given the deal he made with Maya.
- He doesn't seem to care about his henchmen as well since he didn't seem concerned about their deaths and decided to go on with his plan without them.
- He stands out as one of the most heinous and personal villains in the series equally on the same level as Ace Killer but to all six of the Ultramen in general, especially his cruel actions that resulted in Maya and her men dying in the process that ended the Wadoran race, that includes the damage he left behind.
Trivia[]
- Pedan, alongside Alien Adacic and Ace Killer, are the only three ULTRAMAN Pure Evils.
- While he's currently Pure Evil in the anime, the manga version of Pedan is shown to be a lot worse there. Instead of abducting humans for a bargain, he and his men sold drugs that caused people to become superhumans and spread mass hysteria that led to a number of destructions and harm's way in New York. It is left undetermined whether or not his manga counterpart qualifies.
