Alameda Slim, often referred to by his surname, and also known as Yancy O'Del when in disguise, is the main antagonist of Disney's 45th full-length animated feature film Home on the Range.
He’s a feared, wanted cattle rustler who’s said to be capable of stealing 5,000 cattle in a single night, and has the ability to entrance cattle through his yodeling, which he utilizes in his thefts. Slim has his nephews, the Willie Brothers as his henchmen, Rico as his secret partner, and Mr. Wesley as one of his clients. He’s also Maggie's arch-nemesis, as well as the reason she was sold to Patch of Heaven.
He was voiced by Randy Quaid.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He kidnaps hundreds of cows on farms to sell them to the black market to be slaughtered, all to bankrupt the previous owners and so he can buy up all the land. While he didn’t know they were sapient at first, he later learns this and doesn’t seem to care, and treats the animals like intelligent creatures during their final battle.
- Also, it's directly said what he wants to do with the cows, so it's not Fridge Horror at all. Even then, he wants to bankrupt these cows' owners, which is already terrible enough for him to be here.
- While everyone doesn't respect his yodeling talent, this doesn't excuse his crimes (such as stealing everyone's cows just to make their owners go bankrupt). Not to mention that he steals cows from people who didn't show disrespect to him.
- While he has multiple comedic moments, other characters take him seriously.
- He cares about nobody but himself. He even seen threatening his own nephews for not appreciating his talent, even when his other allies are useful to him such as Mr. Wesley and Rico, he only sees them as a means to pursue his goals.
- He targets the Dixon Ranch, where Maggie (the main protagonist) lives and steals all cows there are aside from Maggie.
- He kidnaps 5,000 cattle and plans to sell them to be slaughtered.
- When he was binded and arrested by Sheriff Sam Brown at the film's climax, his arrest and defeat had been deserved very well as well as played for karma.
Trivia[]
- He is the only Pure Evil in a Disney Animated Features Canon movie since Hades and until King Magnifico not to die.
- On top of that, he is the only Silly Pure Evil to appear in a film released after the Disney Renaissance.
- He is one of the only 5 Disney Silly Pure Evils alongside the Queen of Hearts, the Walrus, Captain Hook and Hades.
- He is also the only one of these to appear in a film where the protagonist is not a human. Hades doesn't count as while Hercules wasn't born human, he turns into one.
- In the original version of Home of the Range, where it was originally called Sweating Bullets, Alameda Slim, along with the Willie Brothers, were originally supposed to be undead ghostly rustlers who plotted to kill various herds of cattle in revenge for having been trampled to death years before. Had this version of the film been made, it's quite likely Slim wouldn't have been a Silly Pure Evil, due to how dark and gruesome the original version sounded, but is unknown whether or not he would have been a Serious Pure Evil, Near Pure Evil, or Inconsistently Heinous if his death is treated as a genuine tragedy or is at least treated with some amount of sympathy.
