Agent Buck Trout is the main antagonist of Cartoon Network's 10th animated feature film, We Bare Bears: The Movie, which serves as the series finale of the Cartoon Network original series, We Bare Bears, as well as being the unseen overarching antagonist of the latter series.
Trout is a corrupt government agent and the commander of National Wildlife Control who desires to restore the "natural order" for the world if it all means separating the three bear brothers, also even targeting and imprisoning dozens of innocents bears through violence who never endangered other people nor have even committed wrongdoings, all just to basically succeed an excuse into bring benefit into his life of performing virtually whatever he wants out of sheer pleasure.
He serves as the archenemy of the Bears, and the former boss of Officer Murphy.
He was voiced by Marc Evan Jackson and by Kenjiro Tsuda in the Japanese dub, who also voiced Redyue in Kamen Rider Gaim, Isshiki Ōtsutsuki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, and Martinet in Rage of Bahamut: Genesis.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
In general[]
- While he claimed that he is performing his actions and using the authorities to maintain natural orders by whatever means necessary, it is out of malevolent egotism and xenophobia rather than genuine extremism, and he only makes usage of it as an excuse to justify his actions and bring benefit into his life in performing whatever he wants, even if it means capturing and abusing several bears for sports and pleasure.
- Despite being an expert human supremacist, Trout is shown to be an abusive, ruthless, coldhearted and sadistic control freak towards other humans who behave dimwitted, incompetent, or support animals (especially Officer Murphy and Chloe Park), showing how much of a downright hypocrite he is.
- He showed no care for his reinforcements and even Officer Murphy, just using them as expendable pawns/tools to complete his goals. Even while he does show gratitude towards the Pizza Rat for assisting him in finding the bears, it is still out of pragmatism and also for his own benefit rather than genuinely.
- Unlike other villains from We Bare Bears, Trout lacks redeeming qualities, is not played for laughs, and his crimes are taken completely seriously.
- Even his few comedic moments, like wondering how the bears will pay for a lawyer in honey or stating that the trio's stacking is the worst thing, is only chucklesome to the audience. In grand scheme, they merely emphasize his cruelty.
- While his defeat is somewhat comedic as it has him being simultaneously punched in the face and having a donut shoved in his mouth by Officer Murphy, it is played more for satisfaction than chuckles, as it means the bears would all be safe and Officer Murphy is finally able to stand up to the man that has been abusing him.
His actions[]
- Before the events of the film, he captured and abused numerous bears for his own personal pleasure, two of them being minors, with him having said bears caged in rather harsh conditions and left with injuries and bruises, likely from Trout's cruel treatment of them.
- If the bears even dare to escape, he is willing to enact brutal punishment, as shown when he threatens to torture the bears with an electrical rod, and his metal fences being made out of electricity as well.
- He is also prejudiced towards the bears as he resentfully perceived them as nothing other than beasts, which he even admits in front of Grizz's face.
- To make matters worse, Trout is aware that the bears are secretly sapient, as he can understand Grizz's pleas, as well as knowing that Panda and Ice Bear are Grizz's brothers, as shown in the movie's climax.
- Even before his debut his influence was seen throughout the show as he was the reason why other bears aren’t much seen besides the main three.
- When Grizz, Panda, and Ice Bear are on trial due to unintentionally causing a blackout, he manipulated everyone with fear tactics including a defamatory slideshow by claiming that the bears are dangerous, and must to be shipped to a bear's preserve.
- When he found out that the Bears escaped from the police van, he started searching for them in order to capture them to maintain order by whatever means necessary.
- He abused Officer Murphy by shoving a donut and other foods in his mouth just to shut him up constantly for petty reasons, and he also even abused his own soldiers as evidence where he angrily berated one for their failure and incompetence to capture the bears.
- After he found the Bears in Canada via Panda's cellphone, he planned to separate the brothers by sending both Panda and Ice Bear to different locations while imprisoning Grizz along with other abused grizzly bears in cages.
- He made his appearance in Grizz's dream as a train monster and sadistically chased down the bears along the track, intent on killing them by running them over. Although it was just a nightmare, it is truly reflexive of Trout's behavior and nature, also emphasizing the mental impact his actions had on Grizz.
- While being confronted by Grizz, his brothers and the other bears, he refused to acknowledge his actions and instead furiously ranted about his immense hatred towards bears and anything inhuman.
- After being trapped in an empty cell, he angrily revealed the extent of his belief to the Bears about how human coexistence with bears does not work, and when Grizz told him that nature adapts and he should too, he still refused to reconsider his nature and continues his villainous spree.
- He attempted to kill Grizz and his brothers, along with the other bears, by leaving them all to die in a wildfire out of spite for ruining his plans, taking clear sadism in doing so, and this has drastically traumatized everyone else that has watched it through the news, including some of the bears' friends (such as Ranger Tabes, the Poppy Rangers, Ranger Martinez and Charlie).
- Despite being arrested for his crimes against the Bears, he was virtually remorseless for his actions as it was shown that he hatefully glared at them before he is taken away.
