Is he simping or glazing on themysogonist?!
It only works as an ironic joke. Unfortunately, there are actual people who unironically see him as a "Sigma male" even though the whole point of Bateman and both the novel and movie is to explore the darker side of 1980s yuppie culture, especially the superficiality, materialism, and violence that can mask a lack of genuine identity and purpose, ultimately questioning the nature of success and the human cost of societal pressures. Stuff like critiquing consumerism and materialism, the violence of corporate greed and the power of perception.
Your right... this is like people are simping with diddlers or grapists... for example. When comic black noir/Homelander's clone grape hughie... he got many likes by fans and edited on youtube and here's the problem:

When comic anissa grapes mark... she gets disliked by the invincible fans.
Isn't the entire point of Patrick Bateman that he is a terrible but also pathetic human being? I mean, he's an awesome villain and everything but he is not meant to be liked as person.
This reminds me of people that unironically support Nolanverse's Joker because they saw one of his speeches out of context.
No he is a pathetic and degenerate misogynistic brat.
@Theengine234 I knew people who loves that movie and they genuinely think that Bateman is a "badass, independent and smart man who can do whatever he wants and no one is gonna stop him". These people really admire him.
@Fnaf 1 2 3 4 slendrina I saw people who was defending Anissa and blamed Mark for "aggravating the situation". Yes, they really says that he should've comply and let her SA him. And of course, a lot of horny coomers who write something like "Mark is so lucky, I wish if Anissa did this to me".
@Omega1065 some people genuinely see Bateman as a "badass, smart and successful rich guy who lives by his own rules and can do whatever he want". And most of these people love to say something like "Yes, he's a murderer and psycho, but damn, I like his style and I admire his "I don't give a damn" attitude".
Terrible meme that misses the entire point of his character.
By the definition of the term Bateman is actually not a sigma male. "Sigma" is a term used by manosphere types that you should never talk to, but the idea refers to a man who goes outside the boundaries of society and expectations to pursue his own goals and norms which he sticks rigidly towards. Bateman is obsessed with conformity and fitting in with popular trends, and being regarded as cool.
What do you think?
