MCU Mysterio is takes the trope egotistical director taken to a sociopathic degree. He manipulates the public by using his Holographic technology of practical special effects with his crew to make it real to make them see him as a hero while at the same time not caring about anyone's lives. At the end of the film, he manages to reveal Spider Man's identity, Peter Parker to the public, turning him into a controversial figure out of spite before his death.

Chairman Drek can be a despicable villain on one timeline, or a sympathetic villain in another.

So, I heard that the film director / writer wanted Ahmanet to be sympathetic villain because she wanted to surpass her father. However, after not being unworthy for the throne she decides to make a deal with Set, killing her family, including her younger brother who was an infant, along with the other people in her kingdom.

So much for being a sympathetic successor to the throne.

Homelander (The Boys Web-series)

Steppenwolf (DC Extended Universe) counts too. He was pure evil in the final cut only because his sympathetic traits from the director's cut were cut off.
