I'll be honest, I of the assumption he had genuine affection for Karai because really, can't find any pragmatic reason he would adopt her, and contrary to what this might imply, this makes him viler, he can genuinely feel love despite his generally sociopathic personality, but he will not look back when he would threaten the only person he cares about for disobeying him and will throw her under the bus for the sake of it, that when his attempt to destroy the entire multiverse out of sheer petty spite was going to consume him, Karai begs out of love for him to not do it as she wants to tell him it is not worth his own life and that she doesn't want to lose again, he would then outright claim his own life will be worth if his plan to destroy the Turtles will result in the end of the entire multiverse and everything in it, even himself, and then sadistically laugh doing so.
